Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
Part-time Seasonal, non-exempt, not benefit eligible

The Parks & Recreation Department is seeking motivated & creative adults with experience in coordinating, implementing, and supervising activities for children ages 4 - 12 years old. Applicants should have experience, knowledge, skills, and a definite interest in planning and conducting low organized games, sports, contests, arts and crafts, and special events for elementary and middle school-age children at a playground park site.

Work hours will be Monday – Friday, daytime hours up to 30.5 hours/week. No nights or weekends, other than a few special event opportunities (see dates below under Important Program Dates).

Job Summary

In this job you will:

  • Plan and lead a variety of daily and weekly activities for children.
  • Plan, organize and implement special events throughout the summer.
  • Maintain appropriate safety measures for program participants.
  • Anticipate the needs of children and parents and are willing to help within the parameters of this position.
  • Maintain a notable visual presence during shifts.
  • When necessary, communicate program policies and expectations to students and/or parents to ensure a high level of safety and service at all times.

Under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Director and Recreation Supervisor, the Playground Lead position will enhance the quality of life for all residents and foster individual and community in all aspects of physical, mental, social and environmental through recreational opportunities.

Qualifications

What is needed to apply for this job?

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, pull, stretch, climb, and move for the duration of shift.
  • Must be able to participate in indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Must be able to work professionally and calmly in an environment which may have heightened noise and stress.
  • Must be able to work in warm and humid outdoor conditions.

You may be a great fit if you have:

  • Degree or attending college in childhood education, teacher education, or a related field.
  • One (1) or more years of experience working or volunteering with children and youth. Examples could include babysitting, VBS teacher or volunteer, youth sports coach, etc.
  • Participated in activities, sports, clubs, or other groups
  • Ability to display courtesy, patience, and friendliness
  • CPR/First Aid training

Important Program Dates

  • Staff Preparation & Planning Dates: June 9 - 13
  • Programs Dates: Monday, June 17 - Friday, August 15
  • Staff closing & Inventory Dates: Saturday, August 16
  • Tower Days: June 5, 7 - 8

 

*All Able Park programs are closed on June 19 & July 4 (no staff on duty).
