Pay
Umpire: $19.00 - $23.00 per game
Field Supervisor: $15.00 per hour

In this position, you will officiate and enforce rules for recreation youth coed slow pitch softball leagues. Applicants should have prior knowledge of the sport either as a participant or an umpire. Umpires must maintain a recreational perspective when officiating and perform immediate decision making that affects the game.

Work hours will be Monday - Thursday evenings, as well as tournament weekends (see dates below under Important Program Dates). Between 3 - 12 hours per week.

Job Summary

In this job you will:

Umpire

  • Enforce the rules and regulations of youth coed softball.
  • Communicate effectively with managers, players, and spectators.
  • Be accurate, alert, observant, fair and able to make quick decisions and adhere to those decisions in high pressure situations. 
  • Be firm and deal with criticism from a diverse group of people.
  • Maintain score and keep track of important game information (e.g. time, ball count, inning, etc.) 

Field Supervisor

  • Review fields prior to play and makes necessary preparations for league play, including installing bases & raking fields
  • Promptly complete reports and communications essential to the administration of park activities
  • Report maintenance concerns when necessary
  • Establish, maintain, and foster positive working relationships with program participants and the general public
  • Maintain regular communication with the League Coordinator and be available to assist youth umpires with questions pertaining to league rules from coaches, players, and/or spectators. Communicate and document any problems, issues, or incidents that come up throughout the season
  • Ensure safety precautions are taken in all activities, and follow proper emergency procedures when needed
  • Other duties that may arise

Qualifications

What is needed to apply for this job?

  • Must be 15 years of age.
  • Evening and tournament weekend availability.
  • Ability to lift/move 50 pounds.
  • Capable of using necessary hand tools such as rakes, shovels, brooms, and chalker.

Important Program Dates

  • Preseason Training Clinic: late April/early May
  • Regular Season Dates: May 15 – July 17 (no games May 27, June 6, & June 30 - July 3)
  • Tournament Dates: Thursday, July 24 - Saturday, July 26 (Sunday, July 27 weather backup if needed)
