Permits to purchase firearms and permits to carry them in public are two separate applications. Permits to purchase firearms for Spring Lake Park residents can be obtained at the Police Department. Permits to carry firearms are processed through the County Sheriff’s Department in which you live. Please contact them directly for additional information.
Police Department
The Spring Lake Park Police Department is a full-time law enforcement agency. The Department consists of 11 sworn officers licensed by the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training. The Department has a Chief of Police, two Patrol Sergeants, an Investigator, School Liaison Officer, six Patrol Officers and two civilian record technicians. Patrol Officers are on the street and available for calls 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Department responds to approximately 7000 calls for service per year.
Officers are dispatched via Anoka County 911. We do provide special traffic enforcement for problem areas within our City with the Selected, Intensified Traffic Enforcement or SITE program.
Spring Lake Park Police participates in the “Toward Zero Deaths” program, administered by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, and has received several state awards and grants for our effort in traffic safety.
