Police Department FAQs
We do not dispatch from this office. All dispatching is done through Anoka County Central Communications. If you would like to see or speak with an officer for any reason, please call 911. You may leave messages for individual officers as listed under Contact Us.
Generally no. Vehicle manufacturers have changed the mechanisms inside vehicle doors by adding power window and power door-lock options more often in addition to side panel airbags. Inserting tools can cause damage to a vehicle and can pose a risk of injury to an officer attempting to unlock the door. The only circumstances under which we attempt to unlock vehicles are when a child or pet is locked inside. There are several companies listed in the yellow pages that specialize in opening locked vehicles.
Only some police reports are available for release. If you need a copy of a police report and it is available for release, you will need to fill out a data request form and drop it off in person at the police department. You may also stop by and fill out a report request form. Police report requests may take several days to fill, so please allow adequate time to process your request.
Spring Lake Park Police Department responds to a limited number of situations involving animals. Due to severe budget constraints, we will only collect and impound stray pets that:
- Are severely injured or appear ill and/or neglected.
- Pose a risk to other animals or humans.
Pets that are simply wandering about generally will not be impounded. Owners who are located, however, might be cited for allowing their pets to run at large.
Wild animals such as squirrels, rabbits, raccoons, skunks, deer, and bear, occasionally turn up in Spring Lake Park. Unless they pose a public safety hazard, we will not pick them up. The DNR instructs police and the public to leave them alone and they will move on.

Crime Prevention is the partnership between residents, businesses and the police department.
Programs such as Neighborhood Watch and Night to Unite are two examples.
We need our residents to be an extra set of 'eyes and ears' to report a crime in progress, suspicious people, suspicious actions by people, etc. This is why it's important to call 9-1-1 when you see something or someone suspicious or a crime in progress

The Spring Lake Park Police Department recently contracted with Property Room dot com to auction assets held in its property and evidence rooms online at www.propertyroom.com. The site may also auction surplus City goods. This auction service is provided at no cost to the City or taxpayers.
Auctions are held continuously as items are received by PropertyRoom.com throughout the year. Each item received is evaluated, inspected, cleaned, repaired (as needed), sorted, and digitally photographed. PropertyRoom.com will package and ship items from their warehouse directly to the winning bidder.

Identity theft is when a person(s) uses your social security number or personal information to open accounts without your knowledge, to purchase cars, homes or goods without your permission. This can also include applying for loans and or credit cards or new bank accounts; not just in Minnesota, but nation wide.
The Spring Lake Park Police Department wants to help you prevent identity theft. If you are a victim of identity theft or fraud, contact this department to file a report. Additional steps should be made to prevent further damage or victimization. If your credit cards or bank accounts have been compromised, immediately notify your financial institutions and credit card companies that you have an account with.
Residents that are victims of identity theft are encouraged to notify at least one of the three major credit reporting agencies and notify them of the incident. This will help protect your credit if your identity has been compromised.

Anytime you need a police response, to report a crime or to speak with an officer. 9-1-1is the number to use, anytime. When you first think, “I wonder if I should call the police?” -it’s time to call. Often if residents wait, situations can deteriorate and become all the more serious. We would much rather respond to a scene and find nothing wrong than to respond and find a situation out of control or dangerous.
