Weekly Drop-In Youth Softball
Looking for a fun and free way for your kids to learn and play softball? Join us for a weekly, drop-in pickup game! This is a great opportunity for kids to have fun, make new friends, and develop their skills in a low-pressure environment.
When: Every Wednesday evening, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM starting august 27. We will continue to play until the weather becomes too cold.
Who: Kids in grades 3 through 6 are welcome. Younger players are welcome to try it out if they have above-average skills for their age.
Where: Terrace Park (410 79th Ave NE, Spring Lake Park) on the East field
Cost: Free! There is no cost to play.
What to bring: Kids should bring their gloves and a favorite bat if they have one.
What to Expect: The first half-hour (6:00 PM - 6:30 PM) will be dedicated to skills work. We'll focus on the fundamentals of throwing, catching, and hitting a pitched ball, as well as practicing self-toss drills. A baseball pitching machine will be available if players wish to use it.
The next hour (6:30 PM - 7:30 PM) will be a casual game. Our goal is to keep the game moving and make sure everyone has fun. We'll focus on putting the ball in play so that fielders get plenty of practice and everyone stays engaged. No striking out here—if a player is struggling, they may be asked to hit off a tee to keep the game's pace. We will have adults pitching to ensure consistent throws to the "sweet spot" of the batter.
Our Objectives:
- To develop players' batting skills with consistent, good pitching.
- To keep the ball in play so fielders can learn and practice the game.
- To meet new friends and have fun with a game of softball!
Important Information for Parents: This is a volunteer-run, drop-in activity, similar to a group of kids getting together to play at the park. Several adults have volunteered to organize the game and bring basic equipment like bats, balls, and bases. While we will offer some coaching and guidance, our primary role is to help facilitate a fun and educational activity.
Parents are responsible for the supervision and transportation of their own children. In the event of bad weather, parents must be prepared to pick up their child immediately.
